Canowindra International Balloon Challenge

  • Canowindra Sport Ovals Canowindra, NSW, 2804 Australia (map)

3.5hrs drive west from Sydney

Canowindra is a small rural community situated in the picturesque and fertile Belubula Valley, New South Wales.  It has a long history of hot air ballooning, dating back to the first modern hot air balloon flight in Australian in 1966. Attracting balloon pilots to Canowindra’s wide-open spaces, rolling hills and gentle winds Canowindra became known as the “Balloon Capital of Australia”. Every April Australia’s largest hot air balloon festival and the Canowindra community welcomes over 5000 visitors to the region, generating critical economic benefits to Canowindra and surrounds. Come for the day or stay a while and enjoy all this area has to offer. Camping at the Canowindra showgrounds is a good option and close to the ballooning action.

Cabonne Community Balloon Glow

The 2023 Cabonne Community Glow is the signature event of the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge.  The Cabonne community glow will be an amazing family friendly spectacle. To be held at the Canowindra Sports Ovals, this years event will be headlined by 15 hot air balloons who will inflate just after sunset and then light up like giant 20m high lightbulbs and then synchronise their lights to a mix of the best music over the last 20 years.  It is a spectacle you will never forget.
