Open letter to my boots

Dear boots,

Thank you. You changed my life.

I didn’t realise how attached I would become to you. Over the last year, my brain has linked good things with you, now it takes only the feeling of grabbing you off the shelf to feel good things flowing through my body. I am about to be out in nature, where my worries dissipate off me like sticky stardust into nothingness up into the clouds. I wave goodbye to them.

I put you on my feet, and I smile. It feels good. The perfect fit, not too tight, not too loose. You feel strong, which in turn makes me feel strong.

There were no other colours other than your faded purple hue when I picked you to join me on adventures. I knew they would be the only ones I could have because of the investment. But oh how I grew to love your beautiful colour, as unexpected of a choice for me as taking you home in the first place. Oh the places we were about to see , and the places we were about to just be - you and me.

Thank you. You keep me steady, dancing across slippery rocks.

Thank you. You are my treasured possessions, now a part of me.

Thank you. You keep me dry, when the weather has other plans.

Thank you. You have taught me how to trust myself, to take steady steps, to be present to where I am.

I tie your laces up, almost in ceremony. A smile beams across my face, and I generally don’t know where we are going. But we are together, and we are going on an adventure.

I bought these from Kathmandu in 2022.
