Embracing Solitude on Solo Adventures

Sydney to📍Jervis Bay (3hrs drive south)
In a world filled with constant noise and bustling activity, I yearned for an escape out of Sydney—a chance to reconnect with nature and find solace in solitude. My journey led me to the breathtaking shores of Jervis Bay, a coastal paradise nestled in New South Wales, Australia.
My adventure began with my trusty pair of hiking boots and an eager heart. I had never been down to Jervis Bay, so I was pretty excited to explore somewhere new and was told that there was a plethora of picturesque hiking trails that wind through coastal trails and cliffs and white sand beaches.
When I got down the coast, I first decided to do a short trail down to Steamers Beach in the early morning and was surprised I didn't see a single sole the entire time. As I got down to the beach, I found a spot in the sun to meditate before getting some more exploring in. I really love meditating in nature as it makes me feel more connected to source and reminds me to slow down.
Since it was still early in the morning and I was yearning for more, I decided to make the hike into a solid 15km loop that hugged the coastline.
As I explored the trails, the scent of eucalyptus filled the air, and the symphony of birdsong accompanied me on my journey. I never need music on the trails as there is plenty around from nature and wildlife. Every step brought me closer to the raw beauty of the landscape, leaving me in awe of nature's grandeur.
I decided to make a stop via Kittys Beach, which ended up being the biggest highlight of my trip as I had an extraordinary encounter. There were what seemed to be hundreds of whales playing in the bay. I could hear and see them having the best time, and it was the most special moment ever. I even jumped in the ocean (quickly, because it was freezing) to be closer to them. Swimming near these gentle giants, their grace and sheer presence mesmerised me. It was a humbling experience that reminded me of the importance of coexistence with our fellow inhabitants on this planet.
After watching the whales, I continued the loop and had many realisations that made me feel grateful for being away from the distractions of daily life. The hike and being in nature offered me the opportunity to disconnect from the chaos and reconnect with myself. The harmonious symphony of crashing waves, rustling leaves, and the beautiful sounds of black cockatoos became my meditation. I found solace in the simplicity of observing the intricate beauty of nature, allowing my thoughts to drift away and my mind to find clarity. It was a soul-stirring experience that rejuvenated my spirit and provided much-needed respite.
After the hike and to complete my adventure, I sought refuge in a whimsical abode known as "The Rabbit Hole." Nestled in the heart of Jervis Bay, this cute tiny home transported me into the enchanting world of Alice in Wonderland and was such a delight to come home to. From the colourful decor to the playful details, every corner of the home exuded charm and wonder. What I loved most about it, too, was surprisingly the eco/compost toilet! It was my first time using one and made me feel like I was out camping.
My solo adventure to Jervis Bay was a transformative experience that allowed me to delve into the depths of nature's beauty and find solace in solitude. From exhilarating hikes to surreal encounters with wildlife, each moment filled my heart with wonder and awe. And, as I nestled myself in the whimsical embrace of "The Rabbit Hole," and did some journalling, I realised that sometimes, the most magical journeys are the ones we embark on alone.
